An agreement between the FFAW and FANL in 1999 formed the bases for the current Shrimp Cap Monitoring System. This agreement allows industry to regulate the shrimp fishery in area 6; therefore, benefiting the shrimp harvesters in reducing cost of license fees.
The program monitors harvesting caps agreed to by industry representatives based on Total Allowable Catch (TAC) set by DFO. Along with the area 6 harvesting caps, the program monitors trip limits for all areas. Over the years a tolerance system has been implemented to give harvesters greater flexibility when trying to maximize trip limits.
This web page is designed to aid shrimp harvesters in monitoring trip and cap limits to ensure them the ability to maximize their fishing efforts with minimal penalties.
